Recently in California, Int’l ITC representatives were surrounded by representatives and lobbyists from Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark, Canon, Epson and Sharp as the state of California sought ways to assure that its agencies were purchasing environmentally-beneficial imaging supplies. This change in policy could mean millions in business for remanufacturers. But not if California is persuaded by the OEMs’ flawed environmental impact reports or their lobbyists. And once one state is misled, how quickly would others be persuaded to follow?

In New York, Lexmark attempted to manipulate its way into gaining a preference for selling new, return-program toner cartridges to state agencies by using a nonprofit agency employing the visually-impaired. That attempt was arrested because Int’l ITC members and association leaders exposed it. That meant millions of dollars worth of business remains with private-sector remanufacturers.

Imaging supplies aftermarket dealers have to be vigilant against the never-ending onslaught of propaganda issued by its competitors. The Int’l ITC has responded publicly to such reports. It has also voiced its members’ concerns at public hearings and in important court battles.

The Int’l ITC receives dozens of calls each week from the purchasing public concerning STMC-certified cartridges, the legalities of buying remanufactured and the desire to better understand their cartridge options. Has one of your customers called the Int’l ITC? Probably.

STMC certification is administered by the Int’l ITC. This certification helps companies differentiate their quality products from cheap, foreign or counterfeit products. The Int’l ITC is working with STMC committees in ink jet and color toner to create similar certifications in these rising technologies.

For an organization that is only five years old, we’ve accomplished so much. We have successfully lobbied several states, and have been heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
